One Down, One to Go

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

We finally finished chopping corn on Friday. Sugar beet harvest was to begin today. It’s been raining, and our equipment isn’t ready. This morning we drove south of Belfry to pickup a stray pair. When we passed the beet dump, it didn’t look as though anyone in this area is digging.

Born to run. . .
Time to run to Powell, Wyoming for parts.
Time to run to Billings for parts.
Time to run the parts back to the field or the shop.
Time to run.

The corn chopper is down for the second time today. I just returned from Powell, Wyoming on a parts run. I don’t take any photos when it’s a rush job. Come to think of it - it’s always a rush job. The card above shows the type of driving I had to do. I couldn’t believe all the tankers and tourists on the gravel road. The card below? Well, just because. . .

Corn Chopping

It’s overcast and gloomy here this morning.
I thought this might brighten things up.
I love sunflowers.

We’re preparing for corn chopping. Not that anything else is slowing down or stopping. We’re busy getting equipment ready. We did get the tubes, socks and gated pipe out of the fields. I need to get the kitchen stocked. We do stop at noon during corn harvest. I don’t run equipment for corn chopping. I’m usually around the place. Our equipment is old and tired, like us. Which means that I may have a few parts runs. But hopefully, I’ll be closer to the computer.
