At the historic McCrea cemetary, in deep east Teaxs not far from the town of San Augustine, there is a tombstone from 1886, the inscription reads as follows:
“I have known and loved those that have gone before, and what a joyful reunion it shall be, when over that beautiful river, that peaceful river, the angel of death shall carry me.” Tombstone of Elizabeth Head, 1886, 16 years old.
Don’t know who wrote it, just know that I read it and it stuck with me, a lot of truth to it though. I thought it more appropriate for Montana than the hills of deep east Texas.
