April

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.
Bin gar kine Russin, stamm’ aus Litauen, echt deutsch.
And when we were children, staying at the archduke’s,
My cousin’s, he took me out on a sled,
And I was frightened. He said, Marie,
Marie, hold on tight. And down we went.
In the mountains, there you feel free.
I read, much of the night, and go south in the winter.

The Waste Land

April is coming to a close. The weather has gone from one extreme to another and back again. The cows have all calved. Linda flew in from Canada to share the hectic pace that is this place. I stole a few hours while she was here. Imagine that! Errands run in Billings and Cody turned into mini road trips.
We took in the Wailin’ Jennys at the Alberta Bair.
It was a wonderful show - what voices!
We attended a fundraising dinner for the Special K Ranch - surrounded by friends. It was great to see Pandora and her Sugar Beet Baron.
Did I mention the deck project?
I’m still trying to find the time to sit at the computer. Wish me luck!

I sure wish I could have been at the benefit, Karen. My apologies for not making it.

    Hugs,

Your Flickr pictures and those of Linda’s still kept us all updated along the way. Thanks for that. Hope May brings a special sweetness after your extremely long and dark winter. Your wide smiles hold the secret. Take care.

Glad to see you are back in the internet business. Spring must really be coming as the cottonwoods finally have leaves. The boss left his Carhartt jacket in the porch so it got a trip to the washer! Another sign of spring. The yard is full of baby bunnies.

We were in the neighborhood today but not near a phone book…Rachel just HAD to get a photo of that “Can you NOT read, the speed limit is 25MPH” sign coming into Belfry so we had to backtrack a bit :-)
