Damn. I don’t follow sports or anything close to sports, but even I knew who Susan Butcher was, and was always impressed when I heard of her victories.
Another good person taken from us far too soon. I could make a statement about how the leaders of our country mistrust science, but I’ll refrain in doing so. (Primarily since it would require me to use my second language — profanity.)
Terrible, terrible, I was looking at the news headlines on my Sunday morning off from farming and the first thing I read was that headline. I have always so admired Susan. For a girl from Massachusetts to go to Alaska and take up the world’s most extreme sport…and then to show the boys how it’s done, well that is just special.

Yeah, I saw her obituary in the New York Times. *Sad*
She was a champion during the time that I was travelling to Alaska every summer.
She was the talk of the town….
