I'm physically incapable of making a long story short - and I've been making short stories long for years.

Oh gosh, I hope all goes well. My husband used to treat them in Texas, and if you got to them soon enough it was usually okay. Thinking about her :)

Our Airedale once took a bite on the nose from a copperhead. His nose swelled up something fierce. Hubby took him to the country vet who looked at it and said, "Looks like he zigged when he should have zagged." He gave him some medication and with rest and plenty of water and care he recovered the following day.

I wish Maggie the same recovery and may all your companions heal soon, too.

As far as I know, rattlesnake venom isn't nearly as dangerous for dogs as it is for people. When I was a kid my little beagle got bit . . . . in the groin area . . . . . ouch. He was pretty sick for a few days, but he came out of it alright. We didn't take him to the vet, we just kept him as cool and comfortable as we could and made sure he had plenty of water. He was a tough little fella though. As far as I know he learned his lesson about rattlers, it was porcupines that he couldn't seem to stay away from.

The vet called today and said Maggie came thru the night well. They are keeping her in the dog hospital another night, and on medications, but she is eating and drinking, and things are looking well for coming home tomorrow. They are speculating that the snake administered a warning bite without a full load of venom, but going to the vet soon helped as well. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I am sure they helped Maggie last night. Linn
