Cattle, Power, Pinks and Poppies

REA came out yesterday to install new power and poles. The heifers were interested in the proceedings. I noticed the herd watching the crew. They decided to watch me when I came by with the camera.
I had to go to Red Lodge in the afternoon to buy some cement. This gave me an excuse to visit friends who ranch a few miles down the road. Enjoy some of their flowers:

Poppies are such glory, aren’t they?

I’d almost fortgotten what flowers (or, as they say Down South, “flares”) look like.
And it’s good to see that the utility boys are hard at work. Here, if our power goes out, it takes Arizona Public Service or Salt River Project (depending upon where one resides — in my case, it’s SRP) at least a week to figure out what the problem is. (In most cases, the hampster was taking a well-deserved break from the treadmill.) Then they’ll send out a crew to stand around until fresh coffee is available at the local Circle K.
“Flares” don’t grow well in the summertime here because it’s over 100 degrees outside. Celcius. (At least it feels like Celcius — especially in a trailer with no Swamp Cooler. I’ve been resorting to taking a shower and not towelling off. This provides relief for about 30 minutes. I may have to break down and spend the night in a motel. They’re supposed to install the new swamp cooler on the trailer on Monday — to the tune of 27 Benjamins.)

Oh the poppies are beautiful! I planted some this year, (crosses fingers)
My horses are nosy like this too. If anyone comes around, they all come up and want attention.

Wow! It’s so green back, hope the crops are doing as well as the flowers.
