As the quintessential tightass that I am, (combined with my total dread and loathing for home improvement projects), I would've just unhooked the electronic ignition and bought the Mrs. a box of farmer matches. ;)

I think my electric stove and oven work, but I'm not sure about that -- I seldom use it. (Microwave ovens are wonderful things, and that special plate you can by at WallyWorld to cook bacon works on steaks and burgers as well. Such is the life of a life-long bachelor.)

I just went through having the stove repairman here so many times he practically became family. One burner on the electric stove would only work if you turned on another burner at the same time. Repairman comes outs checks it out and says he'll need to order a couple of parts. The next week he comes out but one of the parts ordered is the wrong part. So he puts the one good part in and the stove works for a day and then goes back to being like before. Call the repairman and he comes back out the next week, this time with the right part. Wires it up and plugs it in and sparks fly everywhere. Turns out he had wired it up backwards which burned up not only the new replacement parts but some other parts as well, such as the clock is now fried. Two more weeks and two more trips the stove now has a new clock along with a lot of other new parts and is now working fine. To his credit the repairman only charged me for the first parts and service call.

Anyway, the moral is that it may be luckier to go out and buy yourself a new stove. :-)

I'm not too upset with the "repairman". He was trying to get everything running up to snuff so I could have my appliances included in a service plan from the utility company.

My stove was a bottom of the line eleven year old gas range. It received a major workout on a daily basis. It was as faded as the last rose of summer.

After viewing Vulcans and Jenn-Airs, I came back to reality and bought a Maytag.

I love to cook, but one of my mottos has always been:

"The way to this woman's heart is through the doors of a restaurant."

hmm, i feel kinda sorry for the repairman. It must be hard to suck at your job.
you on the other hand get to pick out a NEW appliance!
look at it as GOOD luck. buy yourself a shiny new stove

What a total bummer! My oven pilot has not worked and tomorrow they said they can fix it...we shall see. I hope to come home to a fixed oven.....

Good luck finding a stove and I really think the repairman should be paying for it!

Hmm..That's why I smelled a faint smell of gas when I walked over by your stove - you had it unplugged. Get a flat surface top stove. I got mine in 1998 and I love it so much. Do they make gas flat top stoves? Mine is electric. Well, have fun shopping. Linn

I have to agree, the repairman should be getting you the new stove. Or, you could just run over him, that one sounds good too.
