My aunt and uncle raised a jack rabbit which was brought to them by a soft-mouthed cow dog. It hadn't even been weaned yet & had to be dropper-fed. It was great buddies with the house dog, who figured out (over & over) how to open the cage so they could chase each other through the house.

My mother was disgusted that it was fed on the kitchen counter.

It looked just like that cartoon rabbit -- what was his name?? --

When you live in the country, you see lots of wild life. The other day I went out to feed my cats and both of them were playing with a mouse apiece. That is their job. With all the grain and stacks around here, mice are a problem. We always try to send the raccoons on to the next life.....they are trouble besides eating the sweet corn. Seeing lots of pheasants in the barrow ditches right now. bonnie

Sam's Darling Wife - I took it down to the boxcar and put it underneath. Then I put some straw in behind it. I doubt that I found its mother - but there are lots of bunnies there.

Patia - Yes, I don't think it would eat too much.

Bonnie - I came back from the mailbox & Sugar was parading around with it. I got her to drop it - only because she had her training collar on. Once I got her back in the house I discovered that the bunny was soggy, but alive. I brought it on the porch to warm it up (and for a photo op). Then the phone rang, so I ended up in the kitchen with it. I couldn't find any rabbits around outside - I wonder why - so I opted for the boxcar. Sugar is at my side now & keeps putting her head on my lap. I don't know what they were up to this morning - but she stinks. . .

Kirk - I've stopped my tractor to save baby bunnies from wicked farm implements. It caused quite a commotion during beet digging. Glad to hear that you'd do the same. Let's keep my front out of this.

ThreeCollie - It's one of our cottontails. It had a white spot on its head. It didn't seem hurt - just wet, cold and terrified. We have jack rabbits in the hills - but they rarely show up down here.

Moosekahl - That's what being in Sugar's mouth did!

Hi David - Thanks - I haven't a clue to the gender or the name. Soggy?

Boxcar's Caboose - Thank you.

And now, the rest of the story. . . As I walked back to the house I looked in the unoccupied calf shelter, thinking, "Hey, maybe that's where the rabbits are." In the corner was a raccoon. It picked up its head and yawned at me. I went inside and got something with more kick than the digital camera.
