Furry Friday

Darn cow rubbed the tread off the spare.

Things here have been more manic than usual. The Baron was recently diagnosed with diabetes. To make matters worse, he has been in a tremendous amount of pain. His back, ribs and stomach have been bothering him. He’s suffering from insomnia. We’ve been running to Red Lodge and Billings to see doctors. Keep in mind that we’re 18 miles from the nearest pharmacy. They’ve been trying different medications. The blood sugar seems to be responding, but the pain and insomnia aren’t. The Baron is staying active. We’ve both found that the best thing is to try to keep moving. And to keep the stress levels down, it’s important not to call your health insurance company. This afternoon I told a nurse that I was considering medical marijuana. She said that the doctor hadn’t prescribed it yet. I told her, “No, not for the patient, for his wife.”

Next week, he has an MRI scheduled. Then a bone scan. Then an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon. I managed to get all the appointments on one day. While I was at it, I scheduled my mammogram. Might as well join in the fun. I’ve needed to make a dental appointment all summer. I didn’t. My reason was that I just couldn’t find the time. A few minutes ago I noticed that one of my teeth felt funny. I’ll be making that appointment as soon as I can now. When I checked, a good hunk of the tooth is gone. At least it’s a molar - or half a molar.

Karen, I’m really sorry to hear about all of this. We’ve got big-time health problems at our house too. Just when you think you might be able to kick back and relax a little…whammo!

    I’ll be thinking of you…hang in there…

    Best always, E

I’m sorry you two are going through this and I wish I didn’t understand it all too well. There was a time I had to be at the doctors office all the time that I wasn’t at the pharmacist or the hospital.

Thank God for my chiropractor working on my health instead of treating my sickness–he keeps me going pretty well considering the shape I was in before he got me. I wish I found him before the drugs ruined my teeth though.

I almost suspect that the Baron was saving the worst pain until his Friday night, or that time right after the harvest was finished.

    My thoughts are with you.

Sorry to hear about all the problems the Baron is having. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  4. Tony Says:

Thoughts, many good ones for the both of you!
If you might need a little help down there, let me know, I could still use some old cow bones!

sorry to hear about the health problems and doctor’s appointments.

if you haven’t already figured out, I now have a THIRD blog just for health (mainly diabetes stuff). I changed my MT dreaming to http://montanadreaming.blogspot.com and the health one is at http://rachel76.blogspot.com

It’s at times like these that I find the need to quote Marx (Groucho, not Karl): “Middle Age is when you go to bed at night and you hope that when you wake up in the morning you’ll feel better. Old Age is when you go to bed at night and hope like hell that you just wake up in the morning.”

My guess is that this is the soon-to-be-renamed Sweet-n-Low Baron’s mid-life crisis, and that we can take comfort in what my doctor told me when we found out I had kidney stones: “This too shall pass.” (’Tis better to laugh at your troubles–since it hurts too much to cry.)

Thinking of you both, from both of us,

    Kirk & Sheba

  9. Bonita Says:

I’m wishing both of you the best - you’ve got my prayers. One things for sure, when you do drive to that pharmacy, you are driving in God’s country. Take care.

Good Grief, what kind of farmer actually has tread on the spares??? You guys must be one of those wealthy farmers… :)

Sorry to hear about all the health issues. My Endo says we will all be diabetics eventually. I don’t go to her anymore though. Rotten “bedside” manner.

You were fortunate to get all those appts in one day. Of course you will need a another day to rest up from “the Wringer” those Docs will put Baron (and you for waiting).

Your family is in my prayers.

As you know I know all too well about the trials that you both are going through…Hang in there Allan (YOU TOO KAREN) and I’d split the joint with you too by the way ;-)

On a serious note have him see Dr. Phil Mauer in Laurel as he has helped me a GREAT deal with dealing with the pain aspects of my own ordeal

Take care and as always my prayers are with you all!

    Mike

Sweetie, I hope they find out what it is and get your husband fixed up and running smooth. I know it must be rough. I guess I am okay, my dad ended up in the floor yesterday and I had to run home again. Dave and I got him up but boy was he heavy. My neck and shoulder hurt today. That was the scare my mom needed and she let me get her some help. I gave her two options for aide and I asked what she chose and she don’t know. Bless her heart she is so overwhelmed by all this. I found that if I give her choices I can accept then she feels in control and will make a choice. She should have someone tomorrow to help her with him. I hope she chose the option that included house work, laundry and errands. I am running myself ragged on the weekends.

This old woman is getting tired and I sure could use some sleep. I will put you and yours in my prayers. I hope things straighten out for you. Take care and I could use a toke or two myself.

  15. Justin Says:

Hey Karen, sorry to hear about the health issues. I had a little battle myself about 6 years ago, there’s nothing worse than having your own body turn against you. Give the Baron my best, you’ll be in our prayers.

Bitterroot - Thanks, E - we’re thinking of you here, too. We all have to keep on keeping on.

Granny - Thank you for your thoughts. I started falling apart shortly after we were married. And the parts weren’t worth saving. The Baron kept threatening to take me to NAPA. So this time it’s his turn.

Sarpy Sam - Thanks, I’m sure that you’re familiar with back pain.

Tony - Thanks, the bones are here. We’re kind of beyond help!

Zoned Granny - Thanks. Oh, it’s always good to talk with you. We miss you, Ed & your mom.

Mr. H.K. - Thanks for the thoughts from my old home “town”.

Rachel - Thanks, I will check that out.

Kirk - Thanks, the Baron still isn’t getting much sleep. Hugs for Sheba!

Bonita - Thank You. Last Tuesday, I had a prescription to pickup. It was snowing and blowing. When the car in front of me almost went off the road, I managed to stop, backup and turn around. Because there was no way my car was going up the Washoe hill either. So I turned back and went home without the prescription. Sigh. . .

Dawn - Spoken like a true farmer! Thanks.

Mike - Thanks! Hope that you’re doing well, too.

Babs - Thank You. I need to remember to always maintain the sense of humor.

Joe C - Too many somedays. Not enough on others.

Catma - Thank you - I know that you’re going through more than enough there, too. I hope that things get a lot smoother soon.

Justin - Thanks. We really do take our health for granted. If it wasn’t for health insurance, I don’t know where we’d be.
