Have you ever seen this?

Another first for me. We were having coffee this morning when the birds started pecking at the window. Uh oh, must be time to fill the feeder. Two finches were being very persistent. I went out with the feed. There were several chickadees and finches right outside the door. When I got to the feeder I did a double-take. Then I started laughing and came back in for the camera. I took a few photos, then I pulled its tail. It shot out the hole to the ground and ran into the shed.

I’m glad to see that someone else besides me has good stuff like that going on.

It’s too bad there’s not something in the photo to give us some idea of scale–either you have a very small bird feeder, or a very large rat! (The kind that, if he could talk, would say, “Here, kitty, kitty!”) ;=)
Actually, I have a large rat here at my humble Arizona mobile abode…I call her Sheba (among other things).
Kirk who–according to my verification word of the day–should be fixing cannibis muffins, since I “bakhi”.

It seriously fit through that little slot you can see in the picture? That had to hurt!

I just still have to wonder how it got to the hole in the first place. Then, how on earth did it squeeze into it! Crazy mouse.

I’d much rather see that than the possums that used to crawl into our garbage cans in the winter. They’ll scare the poop right out of you.

Whoa! Like the others I can’t imagine how the big rat got through that little hole. No, I have never seen that!

how on earth did it get in there?!?!?

ZG - We’ve always been lucky, haven’t we?!
Kirk - It’s a “normal” size feeder, but the critter was filling it up. We’ve packrats here, but they’re cute compared to NYC wharf/river rats. Save me a couple of muffins. . .
Moosekahl - It was probably lighter when it went in, but you know how those devils can squeeze.
Bonita - Thanks! Good to know it’s not just me. I quit feeding the feral cats when a big black & white kitty kept showing up.
Linn - It doesn’t take much to amuse me - but this really had me laughing.
KH in MO - So why didn’t you stop by?! Yes, we’ve been fortunate with the weather.
Roo - It had no problem getting out, so I’d guess getting in was easier. But those birds were mad.
Robert - We had those too in NYC - I don’t think MT has imported any yet. They wre always good for a startle!
Babs - It wasn’t that big. But I was relieved it went out the hole. I didn’t want to take the feeder down to dump it out.
L - Persistence - or pestistence. It climbed the tree. So far it hasn’t been back.

So I guess that the photo I took of the mummified bat I discovered on the outhouse seat this morning is out of the question. . .
