Sunny Sunday Morning

Yesterday, it didn’t rain - or snow. We woke to a thick fog that started clearing just before noon. The day was warm, but it will take a lot more warm days to start drying out the messes here. We spent part of the day in the muddy hills. We also spent too much time trying to move an ornery (now there’s a word I never used before marrying a farmer) bull to another pasture. We got it done, but we were tempted to get a gun.

On Friday, we received a package in the mail from QVC.
It was lily bulbs from my mother. She went in the hospital at the end of March, so she must have ordered them a while before that. Lilies are one of my favorites. I dug most of my Oriental lilies last year and moved them to a new location. I also have those orange daylilies that grow wild all over. Those lilies froze this spring, and I’m hoping that they’ll come back from the roots. I’d never seen them freeze before.

Even Rocky likes lilies.

I did manage to get the lawn mowed before I took off for New York. It now resembles a hay meadow. I’m going to attempt that today. As wet as it is, it should be fun.

Lilies from your mother. How appropriate.

Receiving lilies from your mother, very touching.

    Rocky with lilies, priceless photo.

Everyone else who has dug up their lilies or has had them freeze have been very fortunate in having them return. I have to hear it from rumors . . . I never have had such luck.

I think it is hard to kill the day lillies so I expect they will be back but they might not bloom this summer. The others may be more tender. Plant the new ones from your mom where they will have a little natural shelter and you will have good thoughts about her each spring when they come up.

This must have been the weekend for farm lawns! Grandson Blake mowed here and then raked. It looks great today. Tomorrow the dandelions will bloom again. The peonies are started but I am afraid some of the daisies droughted out. It is supposed to be hard to kill daisies, too. bonnie

Maybe there is a heaven shopping network?

The oriental lilies that I transplanted are doing well, and the orange day lilies are coming back, too. The meadow has been mowed, and it is raining again right now.

My dad who homesteaded near Bridger before relocating several times always said that there is no such thing as too much rain. bonnie
