Some Thoughts on the Radio Show
Ken was right. The hour went by quickly. I remember looking up at the clock. The first time we were twenty minutes into the program. The second time I looked up we had five minutes left. Could you tell that we were having a good time? But there were things that we weren’t able to touch on in depth.
I think that Montannie was on to something when I asked her what she liked about blogs. She said,
“If you’re a regular contributor, it’s like being at a neighborhood bar, where everybody knows your name and your opinions. I like being able to read, and make a comment here or there. Like the aging barfly, but with fewer headaches. . .”
What I meant by “the Rodney King of blogs”:
I know that we can’t all get along. But I do think that on occasion we can make an effort. I like to think of my blog as a relatively safe place. I hope that it’s not too predictable. I know that not everyone is interested, and that’s okay. There are too many places to visit. Why waste your time in a place you don’t like? I don’t get into hot button issues. There are plenty of places to do that. That doesn’t mean that I’m not interested. I’m just not interested in blogging about them on my blog. If you came over and had coffee or dinner at our house, we probably wouldn’t be discussing politics or religion either. Wolves, perhaps! But I think that it’s nice to be able to discuss things civilly. Humor is fine with me, ridicule isn’t.
Kudos to the callers:
T.L. Hines - So, why weren’t you in the studio?
Jim - We can’t wait for your trip to Montana. Please bring bagels, cheesecake, prosciutto, cannoli and real kielbasa, okay? We’ll supply the beef, bourbon and beer.
Troy asked about the Montana Community. For crying out loud, Troy - I’m ready to adopt you, even if you don’t need me to. Can I be your Blogaunt? I’m too old to be your sister…
I don’t think that the communities are unusual. Look at the NJ blogs on Jim’s blogroll; the Florida blogs on Tammi’s; the NYC blogs. But I am thrilled to be a part of the Montana blog community. It has been wonderful. I’ve met quite few folks who I never would have met otherwise - in the real world, even!
Mark Johnson - Bozeman aspiring writer. Just do it!
David Summerlin - Great question! Everyone had different motivations to start blogging. I just hope that we continue to be motivated, and grow.
Randy - You cracked me up with “Mud Wrestling Commenters!” That would be a thing of beauty - or maybe not.
“No comments on posts?” No way!
Mike Harris - C’mon already - start that blog!
Ellie from Ennis - I’d like to visit your blog, so please send a link.
Sharon was gone before I could say “hi!”, sigh…
“Closed Comments?” I’m with you - bad idea.
Too many cats? I knew that you’d be paying attention! That’s what I was thinking!
Mystery caller from Billings - maintaining political responsibility?! I’m just glad that you directed your question to Craig. I did enough damage with the credibility issue. I’ll stick to blogging about cows.
This has taken me forever, since blogger is letting me post text (I think) - but nothing else. I’m adding all the html links by hand. Step by step, inch by inch - very slowy…
I feel like Mr. T.F. Gumby. I suppose that I should just post this, check for missing links, and keep my fingers crossed that blogger will allow me to edit, since it isn’t permitting previews right now.

And then there are those like me. I like to “lurk” and sometimes comment. I read lots of blogs from all over the country. If I really like them, I check them every day. I worry about Sarpy Sam’s health when he misses a day. But I don’t personally want the responsibility or frustration of doing my own, so I just follow along with whatever you bloggers are visiting about and enjoy the interchange. I read lots of stuff I agree with and lots that I disagree with. Sometimes I contribute to the discussion, sometimes not.
It is fun to meet and know new people and it has been really fun to actually meet and become friends with internet friends. bonnie

I stick to the really stupid stuff myself. No hot button issues to be found on MY blog

Karen, I think your presence in the panel provided the catalyst for a discussion that was broader, funnier and generally more interesting than it would have been otherwise. Thanks for making the trip.
I wouldn’t have guessed the accent, but I’ll hear it when I read your stuff from now on. I’m not startin’ with you — I love it!

“I’m not startin’ with you” was a favorite of mine as well
All kinds of memories came flooding back, which is a good for a person who never remembers his dreams. Although I don’t remember what the movie “Moscow on the Hudson” was about, after I heard Karen speak for the first time, I couldn’t help but think of a sequel…’Manhattan on the Yellowstone.’

I really enjoyed the program and having the chance to match voices with folks I have come to know through the written word. Of course, you were the linquistic rose among the thorns.

Hi Karen, great job on the show though you were put on the spot with the credibilty question,we have seen your cows-your credible…lol, anyway, Im glad they did get some focus on lifestyle blogs ( I once refered to yours as a “cup of tea” in my busy day. While I am a political type, it isnt what blogging is all about and without you on the panel, the discussion would have went that way. Tony

Wow! You are a star now. I bet your blogshares jumped up a lot after the show.
Thanks for the adorable Easter E-card. That was a very happy surprise.

Nice work, Karen. You can be on my radio show any time.
That is, if I had a radio show.

I had the same problem with my post on Thomas Steed with all of the links. I couldn’t get it to post right. Drove me right nutty!
