Back in July of 1913

Thursday, December 30th, 2004

Uncle Tom in Ekalaka was too busy to write.
But he managed to get this pennant postcard off
to his niece Idella who was staying in Great Falls.

(Don’t forget - Click on the photos for beter resolution!)

Aside from the usual day to day things here -
I’ve been getting all the books and taxes together.
Not my favorite thing to be busy with…
I’d rather be spending more time with the cattle.
I haven’t been keeping up with any of my correspondence.
Should I make my New Year’s resolution now?

Another Frosted Morning

Monday, December 27th, 2004

These photos weren’t taken today,
but they perfectly depict what this morning was like.

I hope that everyone had a good Christmas.
Ours was nice, quiet, spent with friends.
We hadn’t made plans, so being spur of the moment -
made it even better.

Thanks to everyone for all the wishes & cards!

Frosty They’re Not

This game is better than a snowball fight!

Mutant Snowmen

Thanks to that Devil for the link.

Who’s Downstream?

Friday, December 24th, 2004

Okay - it’s not your typical Christmas Card.

Another Dude Larsen postcard from his painting,
A Drink of Water

The buckskin looks like my horse, Tuffy -
and I notice that the cowboy hasn’t quite let go of the reins….

Bye Bat…

So sorry that we couldn’t save you.

Range Sheep Sheltered from the Blizzard

Thursday, December 23rd, 2004

Unused postcard
Photograph Copyright by Charles Belden, Pitchfork, Wyoming

While looking for information on the Pitchfork Ranch and Otto Franc,
I found myself at Wyoming Tales & Trails.
A wonderful place to visit and explore - have fun!

We didn’t have a blizzard, but we’ve a bit of snow and very cold temperatures. The cattle seem content. We only had one self waterer problem this morning - not bad for 20 below! Getting dressed for this kind of weather takes quite a bit of time and energy. We’ve been doctoring poor Bat for pneumonia. Losing his mama was stressful enough, and he seemed to be doing well for a while. The wind and weather hasn’t helped. I’ve never lost a bucket calf…

I hope to have some time to blog & visit soon.
But in case that I don’t:

Merry Christmas!

Once Again

Caring, Care Package & Sweets

Sunday, December 19th, 2004

The best news that I’ve heard in a while.

And closer to home,
on Friday evening the UPS man delivered a package here.

Yum!

Junior’s Cheescake - all the way from Brooklyn, New York.

Thanks to Wendy & Tom for the Christmas treat.

See, even the horses know a sweetie when they see one!

Speaking of sweets, I see that I’m not the only one baking up a storm.

Look at what Annie’s been up to!

Bat - the Bucket Calf

Saturday, December 18th, 2004

This is where Bat lives - sorry for the grainy pictures -
I was using a disposable camera with 800 ASA film.
I know, I need a digital camera.

and this is how he greets me,
“Okay Ma, where’s the milk?”

It’s Coming on Christmas

Saturday, December 18th, 2004

Thank You Joni Mitchell for these Words & all the Music!

It’s coming on Christmas
they’re cuttin’ down trees.
They’re puttin’ up reindeer
and singin’ songs of joy and peace,

Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on.

But it don’t snow here;
stays pretty green.
I’m gonna make a lot of money,
then I’m gonna quit this crazy scene,

I wish I had a river
I could skate away on.
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on.

I made my baby cry.

He tried hard to help me,
you know, he put me at ease
and he loved me so naughty,
made me weak in the knees,

Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on.

I’m so hard to handle
I’m selfish and I’m sad,
Now I’ve gone and lost
the best baby
that I ever had.

Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on.

I made my baby say good-bye.

It’s coming on Christmas
they’re cuttin’ down trees.
They’re puttin’ up reindeer
and singin’ songs of joy and peace,

Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on.
