For Tom
Yesterday, we had much to be thankful for,
but the day was still a sad one.
My husband’s horse, Tommy died.
Tommy was a Pryor mustang.
He was over thirty years old,
and had been retired for years…

Tommy looking for treats from another Tom.

The boys.
***************************************
I ride an old paint
I lead an old dam
I’m goin’ to Montana
to throw a houlihan
they feed in the coulees
they water in the draw
their tails are all matted
their backs are all raw
ride around
ride around real slow
the fiery and the snuffy
are rarin’ to go
ride around
ride around real slow
well, the fiery and the snuffy
are rarin’ to go

When I die
take my saddle from the wall
put it on my pony
and lead him from his stall
tie my bones to his back
turn our faces to the west
and we’ll ride the prairie
that we like the best
ride around,
ride around real slow
the fiery and the snuffy
are rarin’ to go
ride around,
ride around real slow
wel, the fiery and the snuffy
are rarin’ to go…

Sarpy Sam has a nice post today about the animals that help us in our lives. It is always sad to lose an old favorite. I am sorry. bonnie

Thanks for all the thoughts. I should clarify - Tom was not the horse that I’ve been doctoring! That’s Teeter and he’s much better, but still not completely healed.
